I have been practicing yoga since the late 1990s and teaching classes since 2012. I teach at studios, gyms, corporate offices, people's living rooms, and occasionally in grassy fields.
I completed my 200-hour teacher training through Blue Heron Wellness in Silver Spring, a 100-hour Ashtanga-inspired training through City Fitness in DC, a Kundalini immersion through Sky House Yoga, and a summer course in Yoga for Anxiety and Trauma through Willow Street Yoga’s program.
I was a competitive track and cross-country athlete before trying yoga. I took the athlete mentality into my yoga practice initially. This lasted until the deeper lessons of yoga started to seep into my awareness and take root.
Never in a million years did I think I would become the teacher. I’ve always been in awe of my teachers and never imagined myself up “onstage.” Thanks to the support of family, friends and an amazing therapist, I grew the courage to dive in! Thank you Ashley Litecky Elenbaas and Sarah Richards for being two important provocateurs.
As a teacher, I try to teach what I know, use my intuition to “feel the room” on a particular day, and gently encourage students to explore their practice in a non-judgmental but totally focused and curious way. It is my goal to help students see how yoga practice supports them in cultivating a solid internal psychological focus. I also love to help my students get strong so that they can be better hikers, more flexible bikers, and generally help them stay young at heart and in body.
Style-wise, I try to always feature breath work and meditation in flow classes and love teaching my weekly Kundalini Yoga class. Some Kundalini philosophy comes through even in my flow classes.
I live in Silver Spring, Maryland, with my family and little black dog.
